sometimes the version of these stories are a bit silly, but...the purpose is to learn Mandarin. To that extent, this is my 7th book from Mandarin Companion and I do like the emphasis on teaching Mandarin and grammar. I recommend studying mandarin from these books over text book learning, because you can read, reread, and reread these improving your fluency with every reading.I read on airplanes, busses, airports, etc...where light is rarely optimal and I find the "light blue" numerical notations to be incredibly irritating and a very poor editing decision. Who in their right mind would use "light blue" for print in a book. But it gets worse...they also are now using "grey" (not black) but grey pinyin in the footnotes...with a small font that makes the tone marking VERY difficult to distinguish. I still recommend these books....but this is a very unfortunate editing mistake.make the font in the footnotes larger AND black AND bold if possible. If that adds a page to the book...charge me an extra quarter....it's worth it.
